Two Air France flights Flight 55 and Flight 65 diverted after bomb threat

Two Air France flights Flight 55 from Washington Dulles International Airport and Flight 65 from Los Angeles International Airport were bound for were diverted Tuesday evening after both were the subject of anonymous telephoned bomb threats, the airline confirmed.

Flight 55, a Boeing 777, was diverted to Halifax, Nova Scotia. 298 passengers and crew were on board.

Flight 65, an Airbus A-380, landed in Salt Lake City and the plane landed without incident and passengers were bused to the terminal.

“As a precautionary measure and to conduct all necessary security checks, Air France, applying the safety regulations in force, decided to request the landings of both aircraft,” the statement read. “An investigation will be led by the authorities to identify the source of the telephone call.”

The empty plane was a safe distance from the terminal, and the FBI is taking over the investigation with assistance from airport police and K-9 units.

KSL-TV reported that 497 passengers and crew were on board the flight.

The threats were called in four days after a series of coordinated shooting and suicide bomb attacks in Paris killed 129 people and injured 350 others. The ISIS terror group claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was in retaliation for French participation in U.S.-led airstrikes on the group in Syria and Iraq.
